Great job this week! The majority of our students followed the rules and represented our GRAPE values well.
However, we still have a few reminders:
Cell phones: Several students are keeping their phones in their pockets instead of their backpacks. Please make sure your phone stays in your backpack throughout the day.
Respect: Let's continue treating our peers with kindness and respect. Remember that we represent HTLA Middle School at all times, both in our actions and our words.
Keep up the excellent work, and let's finish strong!

Please remember that a polo shirt should be worn at all times during the school day. When it comes to outerwear, the only hoodies allowed are official HTLA hoodies, and we ask that any jackets you wear do not have a hood attached. Additionally, please keep your cell phones in your backpacks throughout the day so we can all stay focused on learning together.
Following these guidelines help create a consistent and distraction-free environment where everyone can succeed. Thank you for being an important part of our HTLA community!

I'm pleased to announce that we've earned Casual Friday for October 3rd. Many students have been actively participating in keeping our campus clean and showing respect to our community members.

Earlier this week, our boys' restroom was significantly damaged. Broken dispensers, wasted supplies, and debris left throughout the space. This affects everyone who uses that facility and requires time and resources to repair.
Our school is a shared space that belongs to all of us. When we take care of our learning environment, we're showing respect for ourselves, our classmates, and everyone who works here. We're also ensuring these spaces remain welcoming and functional for everyone. Most of our students demonstrate excellent citizenship every day, and we appreciate that. For those who may have been involved or witnessed this incident, we encourage you to reflect on how our actions impact our entire school community. Moving forward, let's continue building the positive, respectful environment that makes our school a place we can all be proud of. Together, we can ensure our school remains a place where everyone feels comfortable and respected.

We have observed trash being left throughout classrooms and lunch areas, students keeping phones in their pockets rather than storing them properly in backpacks, and inappropriate use of restroom facilities as social gathering spaces. Additionally, roughhousing and pushing among students is unacceptable behavior for our middle school community. School serves as our second home, and we must treat it and each other with respect. These behaviors not only disrupt our learning environment but also show a lack of consideration for our shared spaces and fellow students. Let's work together to create a more respectful, responsible community where everyone can thrive. We know our students are capable of much better, and we are counting on each of you to help us get back on track.

*Reminder, there is no gum chewing on campus.

Unfortunately, we will not be having Casual Friday on October 10, 2025, due to a significant number of dress code violations and student interactions that have not been up to par with our expectations. As the weather gets colder, I understand the need for warmth and comfort. However, all students must wear a polo every day, even when wearing an HTLA hoodie, which is the only hoodie permitted. Jackets without hoods in solid black, blue, white, or brown are welcome. Pants, skirts, and shorts must be black or khaki only. Leggings, sweatpants, and non-HTLA hoodies are not allowed.

Beyond dress code, many student interactions this week have fallen short of what we expect from our community. It is absolutely unacceptable for any student or community member to use language or behavior that is inappropriate for our educational environment. We have many adults on campus who can help you resolve conflicts and support you with peer relationships. Please reach out when you need help. Our GRAPE Values—Grit, Respect, Accountability, Professionalism, and Empathy—call us to treat each other with kindness and dignity. Following our dress code and treating others with respect are concrete ways we practice these values and show that we take pride in our school.

This is a chance for all of us to reset and recommit to being our best selves. Let's hold ourselves accountable, support one another, and demonstrate the empathy and respect that define our community. We are capable of so much more when we work together. Let's prove that next week.

I'm pleased to announce that we've earned Casual Friday for September 26th. Over the past week, I've observed significant growth in our school community. Many students have been actively participating in keeping our campus clean and showing respect to our community members. While we still have room to improve in areas like dress code compliance and peer interactions, I've witnessed notable progress in many areas since last Monday. This positive momentum is exactly what we want to see as a school community. As we enjoy Casual Friday, let's make sure we continue on this positive path. Our goal is to maintain an environment and interactions that are respectful and reflect the community we deserve to be.
